Native versus Farm seeds

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

This blog is a summary of information about native seeds. Native seeds are a variety of seeds that have been traditionally grown in a specific region for generations, and are becoming endangered due to the popularity of urban farm varieties of seeds. Native seeds are typically more nutritious than commercially available seeds, can be saved from year to year, and often have unique characteristics such as different flavors or textures. Native seeds are smaller in size, less visually appealing, and take longer to prepare than commercial seeds. Most villagers prefer native seeds over commercial seeds.

The above is farm green gram seeds. They are pretty to look but have less nutrients.

Lack of buyers for native seed varieties leads to farmers not being able to make a profit from growing them, which causes them to lose interest in growing them, resulting in native seed extinction.
